5 Mindset-Shifting Quotes You Need to Read Over and Over Again

June 15, 2021

A mug which says "see the good"

"The most profound and important gift that life gives us is the chance to try again, and we are given it every single day. If you woke up today, you were given a second chance. You can always try again." –Brianna Wiest

This one is for the serial ruminators. Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

It’s so easy to dwell on ‘could haves’ and ‘should haves’, but these stories will keep you locked in the past.

Don’t get me wrong, there is certainly power in self-reflection. However, the problem starts when we focus on the things we can’t change.

Choosing to view each day as a new beginning will help you let go of yesterday’s mistakes, lighten your mental load and move forward.

Remember that every day is a chance to start over. It’s a chance to wipe the slate clean. It’s a chance to do better.

"If you wait until you feel 100% ready, you will be waiting the rest of your life. Realise this! Some people wait all day for 5pm, all week for Friday, all year for the holidays… all their lives for happiness. Don’t be one of them." –Marc and Angel Chernoff

The reality is, feeling 100% ready is unrealistic. There’s always going to be an element of fear which tends to overshadow any notion of readiness.

If I reflect on all the fear-inducing moments in my life… job interviews, starting a business, live interviews, having a baby…100% ready doesn’t come close to describing how I truly felt in the days, hours and minutes leading up to it. I’m sure a quick self-reflection will reveal a similar experience.

The idea is to trust yourself. Trust yourself to take the leap. Trust yourself to make the change. Trust yourself to pivot when you need to.

Remember, planning is helpful, until it becomes procrastination. It’s a fine line, so stay mindful of this.

"You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing words with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass." –Sylvester Mcnutt III

This may be one of the hardest things to hear because it forces us to take responsibility for our own emotional reactions. It’s a lot easier to pass the blame.

As much as your ego may struggle to ‘sit back and observe words with logic,’ it’s important to remember this is not about being a pushover. It’s about prioritising peace over conflict for your own mental wellbeing.

You don’t always have to win or be right. If it helps, reframe what winning means. Winning can mean letting go.

Know the difference between living by your values and living by the demands of your ego.

"Here’s a difficult truth: Until you change your thinking, you will always recycle your experiences." –unknown

Everything starts with your mindset. Your actions are influenced by your thoughts and beliefs.

To make a shift, you need to consciously acknowledge what isn't serving you and be willing to exchange them for thoughts, beliefs and ideas that do.

Only then will your experience begin to change.

"No one wins at chess by only moving forward; sometimes you have to move backward to put yourself in a position to win." –Marc and Angel Chernoff

The goal path is never linear. It’s a squiggly line with endless peaks and troughs.
Mistakes are inevitable. It’s how we learn from those mistakes and respond in moments of adversity that truly matter.

All you can do is keep making those constant and continuous course corrections toward your goal.
